Mobile Controller for Implantable Device
An established medical product manufacturer is developing a new implantable device. it will be linked wirelessly to separate control units (“programmers”) to be used by the physician and the patient. Each programmer app will run on a standard mobile device – a tablet for the physician and a smartphone for the patient. Following an extensive vendor search and evaluation process, Syncro Medical was selected as their software development partner for this project.
Applying its mobile development expertise, Syncro Medical worked closely with this client to refine user requirements. We then developed a multi-device platform architecture which will provide a common set of services and features to be used by each app. The app platform is designed to support Android, iOS, and UWP apps. The platform was developed using Xamarin Forms (Microsoft’s cross-platform UI toolkit), so that functionality could be shared across Android, iOS, and UWP in a single code base. Because of the success of this app platform, Syncro Medical was asked to adapt it for use with another of the company’s products sold by their European division.
In addition to developing the app platform, Syncro Medical was asked to create a test platform. The test platform will greatly improve efficiency of the QA effort by maximizing the use of automated testing on a wide array of targeted mobile devices. Syncro was also tasked with performing all independent verification testing (IVT) of the app platform. To accomplish this, our first step was to refine the client’s user requirements to better support traceability and testability. Using these updated requirements, Syncro Medical designed test plans and developed IVT code that runs in an automated fashion using the test platform. This allowed us to perform independent verification of the app platform quickly and routinely, thereby accelerating the overall project.
